Bio

Josh Groban was born in Los Angeles, California, on February 27, 1981. His parents were (are) Episcipalian, his father having converted from Judaism.

Josh did some singing during his school years, but focused more on theatrical arts. During the summers of ‘97 and ‘98, Josh attended the Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan, where he majored in theatre. About this same time, he began taking private music lessons. Groban says: “I started taking music lessons on the side. I was very much into musical theater. I had a pretty good baritone voice, so I began acting and singing in school productions.”

But then Josh’s vocal coach introduced him to the talented music producer David Foster. Josh began working as a rehearsal singer for Foster. You might say that the duet that changed Groban’s life was when he stood in for Andrea Bocelli to rehearse “The Prayer” with Celine Dion. It is reported that a Warner Brothers executive offered Josh a record contract on the spot. Whether that is the case or not, Josh Groban’s star was beginning to shine.

After being signed, but before releasing his first album, Josh was featured in several performances, including a performance of “There For Me” on Sarah Brightman’s La Luna Tour and DVD. Josh also recorded “For Always” with Lara Fabian, as well as performing at many events and charities.

On November 20, 2001, Josh Groban’s first album (self-titled) was released over the next year, it would reach double platinum in sales. On November 11, 2002, Josh released his second major album, Closer, which would become a four time platinum album in the USA.

Over the next several years, Josh released a live album, a DVD, and performed on several soundtracks, but did not make a major album release. But then on November 7th, 2006, Josh Groban released his long awaited next album - Awake.
